Town Hall is at 4601 E Oak Island Dr. The main number, 910-278-5011, reaches most departments.
Town of Oak Island

Main line for billing, planning and general questions. Hours aren't posted on the Town site, so call before you drive over.
Pay the water bill
The Town runs water and sewer itself. Billing: 910-278-5011. Moving in or out? Start or stop service online.
Leak, no water, sewer backup
Repairs: 910-201-8007 (business hours).
After hours: 910-278-5595.
If the problem turns out to be on your side of the meter, the Town may charge a $125 service fee.
Trash day by zone
Picked up by GFL Environmental. Zones 1–2: Monday. Zones 3–5: Tuesday. Zones 6–8: Wednesday. Garbage goes every week and recycling every other week. In summer, zones 6–8 also get a Saturday pickup.
Yard waste isn't picked up at the curb.
Disposal Convenience Site
4110 Airport Rd. There's no curbside bulk pickup. Bring furniture and appliances here, free for residents (bring proof of residency).

Council meetings
Regular meetings are on Tuesdays at 6pm, upstairs at Town Hall. They air on OKI-TV (Spectrum 8/122) and stream on the Town website. Agendas and minutes are on the Meetings page.

Re-entry after a storm
Oak Island doesn't issue re-entry passes or decals. Residents are let back on once the bridges and roads are safe. Keep ID plus a deed, tax bill or utility bill in your go-bag, because you may be asked for it. Evacuation orders come through Brunswick County Emergency Management.
Resident beach parking permit
$10 each, up to 3 per property, for Town residents and property owners. There's no sticker; the permit is linked to your plate. Buy it in the SurfCAST app, online, or by phone (910-200-1497). You'll need an authorization code: on-island residents use their water account number.
Property & vehicle taxes
Starting with the 2026 bills, the County collects Oak Island's town tax too, so you get one combined bill instead of two.
Pay your property tax
Bills are due Sept 1 and can be paid without interest through Jan 5. After that, a 2% penalty is added, plus 0.75% each month it stays unpaid. Pay online by card or eCheck, or by phone at 910-460-9915.
What you pay per $100
Brunswick County: 34.2¢
Town of Oak Island: 20¢ (10¢ general, 7¢ fire, 3¢ beach sand fund). That's up from 16¢.
Combined inside town limits: 54.2¢ per $100 of assessed value. On a $400,000 assessment, that's about $2,168 a year.

NC Tag & Tax Together
Your vehicle property tax is billed together with your registration renewal. The DMV mails the notice about 60 days before your tags expire. Pay online at myNCDMV (the payment processor adds $3 + 1.85%), by mail, or at a license plate agency.
Short-term rental taxes
5% accommodations tax
Applies to rentals shorter than 90 days: 3% tourism plus 2% beach nourishment. File every month by the 20th, even if the home didn't rent that month. If a rental agency manages the home, the agency files for you. Register with Town Finance.
1% room occupancy tax
Applies to stays shorter than 15 days. The return is due by the 15th of the following month. It must be listed separately on the guest's bill.
Neither the Town nor the County page says whether the two taxes stack or replace each other for the same stay, so ask Town Finance (910-201-5011) before you file.
Utilities & outages
Brunswick EMC
Oak Island's power comes from Brunswick Electric Membership Corp (BEMC), a co-op, not Duke Energy. Customer service Mon–Fri 8–5. The outage line is open 24/7.

Spectrum
Spectrum serves Oak Island with cable internet up to 1 Gbps. Brightspeed is expanding fiber along the NC coast, but we couldn't confirm it reaches the island. Check your own address on their site.
Propane, not piped gas
We found no piped natural gas service on the island. Homes use propane, and several propane dealers list Oak Island in their delivery area.
